Rüdesheim am Rhein is a small wine town at the point where the Rhine narrows into its most dramatic gorge, surrounded by steep vineyard terraces and framed by the wooded hills of the Taunus. It is best known for the Drosselgasse, a narrow lane packed with wine taverns, and for the Niederwald Monument overlooking the valley.

The town sits at the heart of the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage stretch lined with castles, terraced vineyards, and riverside villages that makes for one of Germany's most scenic drives. It also anchors the start or end of many Rhine cruises and cable car rides up to the vineyards above.
