Irún is a Basque border town on the French frontier, historically the starting point of the Camino del Norte, the coastal pilgrimage route that follows Spain's northern shore toward Santiago. Its position on the Bidasoa River has made it a crossing point for travelers, traders, and pilgrims for centuries.

Set where the Pyrenees meet the Bay of Biscay, Irún makes a natural gateway for road trips beginning in France and entering Spain's green north, with the resort town of Hondarribia and the coastal road toward San Sebastián just minutes away.
