Jaca: top attractions & road trip guide

Jaca is the main town on the Camino Aragonés, the route that crosses the Pyrenees from France via the Somport pass before joining the Camino Francés further west. It served for centuries as the capital of the medieval Kingdom of Aragón, and its cathedral, consecrated in the 11th century, is considered one of the earliest and most influential Romanesque buildings in Spain.
Set in the foothills of the Pyrenees in Huesca province, Jaca makes a scenic stop on a road trip through the mountains of Aragón. The drive in descends from high alpine passes into a broad valley, with the star-shaped Ciudadela fortress marking the edge of town.
