Malmö: top attractions & road trip guide

Malmö is Sweden's third-largest city, at the southern tip of the country facing Denmark across the Öresund strait. A former industrial shipbuilding town, it has reinvented itself over the past two decades with striking modern architecture, a diverse population, and a compact, walkable center around its medieval main square.
As the southern endpoint of a classic Stockholm road trip, Malmö is linked to Copenhagen by the Öresund Bridge, a combined road and rail crossing that makes it easy to continue into Denmark. The drive south from the Swedish lake country flattens into the open farmland of Skåne before reaching the coast.
