Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, celebrated for a medieval old town that survived the 20th century almost untouched by bombing. Gothic spires, Baroque facades, and a Renaissance castle complex sit along the banks of the Vltava River, earning the city its reputation as one of Europe's best-preserved historic capitals.

For road trippers, Prague works well as a starting or ending point rather than a drive-through stop, since the historic core is largely pedestrianized and best explored on foot. The city sits in central Bohemia, within easy reach of Kutná Hora, Karlovy Vary, and the German and Austrian borders, making it a natural hub for looping itineraries.
