Kutná Hora: top attractions & road trip guide
Kutná Hora is a small Bohemian town that grew rich on silver mining in the 14th century, when its output helped fund much of medieval Bohemia. That wealth left behind an outsized collection of Gothic architecture, including a UNESCO World Heritage historic center anchored by St. Barbara's Church, one of the most celebrated Gothic cathedrals in Central Europe.
The town sits about an hour east of Prague, making it a popular half-day or full-day detour on a road trip through Bohemia. Its compact center is walkable, while the famous Sedlec Ossuary, a chapel decorated with human bones, lies a short drive or tram ride from the main square.

A monumental Gothic cathedral begun in 1388 and dedicated to the patron saint of miners, with flying buttresses and richly frescoed vaults reflecting the wealth of the medieval silver trade.
Sedlec Ossuary
A small Gothic chapel decorated with the bones of an estimated 40,000 to 70,000 people, arranged into chandeliers, garlands, and a coat of arms by a woodcarver in the 1870s.
