Warsaw is Poland's capital and largest city, rebuilt almost entirely after being flattened during the Second World War. The meticulously reconstructed Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sits alongside a modern skyline of glass towers, making the city a study in contrasts between historic reconstruction and contemporary ambition.

As a road trip base, Warsaw sits on the flat Masovian plain in central Poland, with fast highways radiating toward Kraków, Gdańsk, and the eastern borderlands. The city itself is best explored on foot or by tram, so most drivers park up, see the Old Town and Royal Route, and use Warsaw as a launchpad for the rest of the country.
