Lake Bled: top attractions & road trip guide

Lake Bled is an alpine lake in the foothills of the Julian Alps, famous for the small island at its center topped by a Baroque church and for the medieval castle perched on a cliff above the northern shore. Its turquoise water, forested slopes, and backdrop of higher peaks have made it Slovenia's best-known scenic destination.
On a road trip, Bled sits in the hill country north of Ljubljana, a short drive from the capital and close to the Vintgar Gorge and the higher passes of Triglav National Park. The lake itself is small enough to circle by car or on foot, with the town's hotels and cafés clustered along the eastern shore.
