Odense: top attractions & road trip guide

Odense is Denmark's third-largest city, set on the island of Funen roughly midway between Copenhagen and Jutland. It is best known as the birthplace of the fairy-tale author Hans Christian Andersen, and its old town preserves cobbled lanes, half-timbered houses, and a Gothic cathedral from the medieval period.

For drivers, Odense makes a natural midpoint on the route between Zealand and Jutland, reached by crossing the tolled Great Belt Bridge. The compact old center sits close to the highway, making it an easy stop for a few hours before continuing west or east.
