Copenhagen is Denmark's capital and largest city, built around a network of harbors and canals on the island of Zealand. It is known for Tivoli Gardens, the colorful waterfront of Nyhavn, the bronze Little Mermaid statue, and a strong tradition of Danish design and everyday cycling that shapes the whole city.

As the natural starting point for a Danish road trip, Copenhagen sits at the eastern edge of the country, close to the Øresund Bridge crossing to Sweden. The historic center is compact and best explored on foot or by bike, while routes west toward Zealand's countryside and, further on, across the Great Belt Bridge to Jutland begin right at the city's edge.
