Driving to Sitges: tolls, fuel & road trip guide

Sitges is a seaside town on the Garraf coast, about 40 km southwest of Barcelona, where a whitewashed old quarter and the Baroque church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla sit on a headland between long sandy beaches. In the 1890s the painter Santiago Rusiñol made it a meeting point of Catalan Modernisme, and since 1968 the town has hosted the Sitges Film Festival, the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. The 59th edition runs from 8 to 18 October 2026, complete with its famous Zombie Walk, which makes October the town's liveliest month outside summer.

By car, Sitges sits neatly between Barcelona and Tarragona. The fast C-32 motorway (tolled tunnels through the Garraf massif) takes around 40 minutes from the city, while the slower C-31 coastal road winds along the cliffs of the Garraf Natural Park with tight bends and sea views. The old town is largely pedestrian and street parking is scarce during the festival, so plan to leave the car in one of the paid car parks on the edge of the centre and walk in.

Top attractions

Church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla

The 17th-century Baroque parish church standing on the rocky headland of La Punta, the town's best-known silhouette and a classic sunset viewpoint over the sea.

Cau Ferrat Museum

The seafront home and studio of painter Santiago Rusiñol, a key centre of Catalan Modernisme, now a museum displaying his collection of wrought iron, ceramics and paintings, including works by Picasso and El Greco.

Maricel Museum

Next door to Cau Ferrat, the Maricel palace built for the American collector Charles Deering houses art from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century, with windows and terraces opening straight onto the Mediterranean.

Passeig Marítim and the beaches

A palm-lined promenade running west from the old town past a string of sandy beaches, easy for a long walk and, in early autumn, still mild enough for a swim on warm days.

Garraf coastal road (C-31) and Garraf Natural Park

The old coast road between Castelldefels and Sitges clings to the limestone cliffs of the Garraf massif, a slow but scenic alternative to the motorway tunnels, with pull-offs above small coves.
