Geiranger is a small village at the head of the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage fjord ringed by sheer cliffs and cascading waterfalls, including the Seven Sisters. The settlement itself is tiny, but it draws heavy cruise ship and tourist traffic in summer for the fjord views and hiking above the water.

On a road trip, Geiranger is best known for the roads leading in and out: the Geirangerfjord car ferry to Hellesylt, the switchback climb up Ørnevegen (the Eagle Road), and the Trollstigen mountain pass to the north. These mountain routes are seasonal and typically closed by snow from autumn into late spring.
