Stops on this route

Oslo

Oslo is Norway's capital, spread around the head of the Oslofjord and framed by forested hills. It mixes modern harborside architecture like the Opera House and Barcode district with a compact historic core, and its museums cover everything from Viking ships to polar exploration and modern art.

Bergen

Bergen is Norway's gateway to the western fjords, built around a harbor ringed by seven mountains. Its Bryggen wharf, with rows of colorful wooden Hanseatic merchant buildings, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the compact center mixes fish markets, narrow lanes, and funicular rides up to viewpoints.

Flåm

Flåm is a small village at the innermost end of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the Sognefjord, known chiefly for the Flåm Railway, one of the steepest standard-gauge rail lines in the world, and for cruise access to the narrow Nærøyfjord. The village itself is little more than a harbor, a station, and a handful of services, but it sits inside dramatic, steep-sided fjord scenery.

Geiranger

Geiranger is a small village at the head of the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage fjord ringed by sheer cliffs and cascading waterfalls, including the Seven Sisters. The settlement itself is tiny, but it draws heavy cruise ship and tourist traffic in summer for the fjord views and hiking above the water.

Ålesund

Ålesund is a coastal town built across several islands, rebuilt almost entirely in Art Nouveau style after a devastating 1904 fire and known for its turrets, spires, and ornamented facades along the harbor canal. The town center is compact and walkable, with the Aksla viewpoint above town offering a well-known panorama over the islands and sea.
