Oslo: top attractions & road trip guide

Oslo is Norway's capital, spread around the head of the Oslofjord and framed by forested hills. It mixes modern harborside architecture like the Opera House and Barcode district with a compact historic core, and its museums cover everything from Viking ships to polar exploration and modern art.
For a road trip, Oslo works well as a start or end point rather than a stop to linger in: the E6 and E18 corridors fan out from the city toward the fjords, mountains, and coastal routes. Traffic and parking are typical big-city, but once you clear the ring roads the drive opens into gentler farmland and forest.
